The Argodadi community must seize opportunities and develop the potential for night sky tourism in various sectors such as trade, transportation access, lodging, communication, and other fields. Prof. Dr. Ir Dwi Sulisworo MT as the Chief Executive of LPPM UAD said that the selection of Argodadi Village was based on the condition of sky brightness which was still very good in this area. This is marked because of the lack of light pollution and air pollution which causes celestial bodies to be seen clearly with a telescope. In his remarks, the Head of the Bantul Regency Tourism Office, Kwintarto Heru Prabowo SSos advised, regional tourism should belong to the local community.
The committee was worried because the event started, heavy rain occurred at the camp site. But after the rain stops, the sky is clear again and the sunset can be done. Participants were very enthusiastic in all observation sessions. Apart from the sun, the celestial objects observed by the camp participants included the moon, the constellations of Scorpio and Sagittarius, the Butterfly Cluster, the Milky Way Galaxy, Alfa Centauri, the Summer Triangle (Vega, Altair, Deneb), Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and the constellation Pegasus.
At this launching event, the proposing team handed over equipment in the form of a dome tent with a capacity of 6 people and a telescope which was a grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture in the Community Partnership Program scheme. This equipment is an investment that must be developed by the community to maintain the sustainability of night sky tourism. The head of the Pokdarwis (tourism awareness group) representing the residents received the equipment and was committed to increasing community involvement in the management of tourist areas in future activities.
Sinta Kusumaningrum's post (2018) |
The development of night sky tourism in Argodadi is the beginning for the development of an integrated tourism village in this area. In several discussions with the Bantul Regency Tourism Office, Village Apparatus, and the local community, it can be seen that this tourism service is a new thing that requires support from various parties and is interdisciplinary. The potential that is raised in this empowerment program is the atmosphere of the night which is still dark (no light pollution yet) which makes it possible to make observations either at night or during the day. This potential is packaged into a tour package with several accompaniment activities such as fun games, astronomy workshops, and archery cultural tours and cup praon, making the Progo River with canoes and water bikes.
This potential has been seen for a long time, at least since 2018 as posted in Sinta Kusumaningrum's post (2018) on FB Group Warga Sedayu Online (WSO) : Stargazing by the hamlet and residents will be the main subject with the andromeda team of UAD physics education study program and UAD PASTRON. Mr. Camat, how about a night sky tour for sedayu areas? The location is suitable for observing the night sky, later it can be collaborated with UAD, hopefully it can add to the day's progress
